Traktor Pro S4 – Externer Mixing-Modus

Traktor Pro S4 ist ein integriertes DJ-Paket, das den S4-Controller und die im Controller integrierte Soundkarte verwendet. Daher wirst du Traktor Pro S4 in der Regel im internen Mixing-Modus verwenden. Hierbei werden die verschiedenen Audiosignale im softwareinternen Mixer gemischt und dann an die Master-Out-Buchsen gesendet. Wenn du das Dialogfeld Preferences/Output Routing öffnest ist die einzige Mixing-Option Internal.

Es kann Situatinen geben, in denen du die Traktor Pro S4-Software im externen Mixing-Modus verwenden willst, d.h. mit einem externen Mixer und einer anderen Soundkarte, beispielsweise der Audio 8 DJ. Dieses Posting zeigt, wie du in Traktor Pro S4 den externen Mixing-Modus aktivierst.

Bearbeiten der Datei Traktor Settings.tsi

Um den externen Mixing-Modus in Traktor Pro S4 zu aktivieren, musst du die Datei Traktor Settings.tsi bearbeiten. Verwende hierfür einen XML-Editor, da diese besser mit den sehr langen Textzeilen umgehen können, die sich in der Konfigurationsdatei befinden. Erstelle außerdem vorher eine Sicherungskopie der aktuellen Datei 'Traktor Settings.tsi' für den Fall, dass etwas schief geht.

Beende Traktor Pro S4, wenn das Programm läuft.
Erstelle eine Sicherungskopie der Datei Traktor Settings.tsi.
Tipp: Wenn du den Speicherort der Datei Traktor Settings.tsi nicht kennst, öffne in Traktor das Dialogfeld Preferences und dort die Seite File Management . Klicke auf den Button mit den Auslassungszeichen neben Root Dir und der Ordner, in dem sich die Datei Traktor Settings.tsi befindet, wird geöffnet.
Lade die Datei Traktor Settings.tsi in einen Text- oder einen XML-Editor.
Suche in der TSI-Datei nach einem Eintrag mit dem Namen Routing.Mixer.External. Dieser Eintrag legt fest, welcher Mixing-Modus aktiv ist.
Ersetze die 0 im Attribut Value durch eine 1.
Speichere die Datei Traktor Settings.tsi.

Konfigurieren des Output Routing

Starte Traktor.
Öffne das Dialogfeld Preferences/Output Routing.
Die Option Internal ist deaktiviert. Der kleine Hack aus dem vorigen Abschnitt hat den externen Mixing-Modus aktiviert, auch wenn die Checkbox External nicht sichtbar ist.
Wähle auf der Seite Preferences/Audio Setup dein Audiogerät aus.
Kehre zurück zur Seite Preferences/Output Routing und konfiguriere dein Output Routing.
Wenn du im externen Mixing-Modus den Loop Recorder verwenden willst, weise zwei der Soundkarteneingänge an Output Send zu. Dort landet das Ausgangssignal des Loop Recorders. (Da dies nur ein Hack für eine nicht implementierte Funktionalität ist, solltest du Main als Quelle für den Loop Recorder verwenden, wenn du Teile deiner Tracks aufnehmen willst.)

Jerome wrote on November 9, 2010 at 9:29 PM Interesting.... This brings me one question, reason why I didn't bought S4 yet. I've heard that it was not possible to use the software version of the S4 directly linked to CDJ-2000 in HID mode. Would this do the trick?? My goal is NOT to use any coded-cd like the scratch version, but, with a complete CDJ-2000 setups in some clubs, I will prefer them than the S4 controller. Any help will be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance!
	Rainer G. Haselier (admin) says: The current version of Traktor Pro S4 1 does not support any controller in HID mode. That means you can use a CDJ-2000 in MIDI mode only to control the software. You would need to create your own MIDI mapping or find one in the cloud. The external mixing mode does not the trick. It only enables the external mixer mode of Traktor that allows to mix with an external hardware mixer instead of the software mixer integrated into the software.

I currently use Traktor Pro with 2 CDJ400s and I'd like to do away with them and only use the S4. I only want to use the S4 in External Mixer mode combined with my Rane MP44 mixer. I am going to be a brave soul and try to hack the code as you've described. I have never opened an XML editor nor do I know where to find it on my MacbookPro 13" which is running OS X 10.6.4 so, can you give more data on how to access the XML editor, please? Thx

So in your mind, with me being a non IT or code-worthy type, can you direct me to the most user-friendly one for the non-experienced? Your help is greatly appreciated. I don't understand why NI would allow you to option external mixer mode. Seems rather selfish on their part. Thanks again for helping nurse me along tech-wise. Truly grateful.

The VMS4 won't work like that, you could use it as a controller and buy an external soundcard and patch it back in (you will lose the level meters and the heaphone cue on the VMS4, but you can use the levels from traktor and the cue on an Audio 2/4 or 8. (any soundcard really !) The design of the VMS4 won't allow for this configuration ... i've had two of them and they both didn't play well with anything other than VDJ-LE. And why are you using a VMS4 when you have the S4?

I tried yesterday to combine both my A8 and A4 in W7x64 using ASIO4ALL. The only problem is i don't get all the channels showing up and then the ones that do are all called the same name. Do i need to edit the XML file to show these in the configurator ? I know i won't get TC working this way, but it's not important just now...

Gus wrote on February 26, 2011 at 12:00 AM This may seem a bit picky but once you've enabled external mixing mode, can you select the S4 as your audio device and reassign the channels? I've been working with Traktor pro for a couple of years and I always have the first far left fader on the mixer set to deck a, the next one deck b, next deck c and the far right 4th channel as deck d. I'd love to be able to set up the S4 like this as sooner or later I'm gonna make an error due to old habits!! Thanks

I have tried everything to fix this problem but its not working. I just got laptop and this external 3d sound card and no other external mixing device. djdaventreague wrote on April 11, 2011 at 6:07 AM I ran into a similar need last week and i stumbled on a trick that seemed to work perfect for me and i have tested it on different equipment as well just to be sure it wasnt a stroke of luck that came over me i played out at a club in the city that had a pioneer djm2000 so i decided to just plug in my laptop and set up the audio drivers for traktor thru the pioneer (i didnt have my s4 plugged in ) once i set up and routed my outputs on the mixer (1/2-sample deck c, 3/4-deck a, 5/6-deck b,7/8-d

djdaventreague wrote on April 11, 2011 at 6:10 AM ---> cont. once my audio was set up like i wanted it to be i plugged in the S4 and it asked me if i wanted to switch to S4 audio and i clicked no, the window went away all the controls of the s4 still worked minus volume and all of my audio was coming out of the pioneer! it also worked with my denon dnx1600 the same way, i was able to use all the mixers FX as well as traktors of course.. hope this helps for some of you

What happens when your "Traktor Settings.tsi" file is 5MB and something like NOTEPAD or WORDPAD gives you a (Not Responding) when you try to open it. It needs to consume more resources then windows can give most likely. How then do you edit this line item?
